Since 1962, Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) has worked to improve the health and wellbeing of communities across North Dakota and western Minnesota. What began as Dakota Hospital evolved into one of the region’s most impactful philanthropic organizations, investing more than $100 million into initiatives, partnerships, and nonprofits that strengthen lives across the region.
As DMF expanded into a newly renovated campus designed to better serve the community, the organization needed interior signage and branded storytelling elements that would reflect both its rich history and forward-looking mission. DMF partnered with Sign Badgers to help bring that vision into the physical environment through custom signage, environmental graphics, and branded storytelling elements.

The Challenge
Dakota Medical Foundation needed more than traditional signage. The new campus required experiential branding elements that could visually communicate decades of service, philanthropy, leadership, and community impact while supporting the modern design of the building itself.
The organization wanted visitors, donors, nonprofit partners, and employees to immediately understand the values driving DMF’s mission. Large open gathering spaces and training rooms presented opportunities to incorporate storytelling and educational displays, but every installation needed to feel cohesive, polished, and intentional rather than overwhelming or disconnected.
The challenge was balancing inspiration with clarity — developing displays that could communicate meaningful information while remaining visually engaging and architecturally integrated throughout the space.


The Solution & Impact
Working closely with Dakota Medical Foundation’s internal team, Sign Badgers helped bring a series of custom interior branding and storytelling installations to life throughout the campus.
Large-scale wall graphics, dimensional lettering, and environmental branding elements transformed gathering spaces into environments centered around purpose and service. Inspirational quote walls and mission-focused displays reinforce DMF’s core values while adding warmth and personality to the modern interior.
Sign Badgers produced and installed custom timeline installations that visually showcase the organization’s history and regional impact, highlighting key milestones from Dakota Hospital’s beginnings through the growth of initiatives like Giving Hearts Day and community wellness programs. These displays transform hallways and common spaces into engaging storytelling experiences that celebrate decades of progress and generosity.
Additional donor recognition displays, scholarship features, and educational installations were fabricated using acrylic panel systems, dimensional elements, and custom graphics that support the organization’s mission while complementing the architectural design of the space.
Throughout the project, Sign Badgers worked alongside Dakota Medical Foundation’s team to ensure each installation was executed with precision and consistency, helping translate the organization’s vision into a cohesive physical experience.
